With its relaxed atmosphere and central location on the Sapphire Coast, Kalaru Holiday Village is perfectly placed for exploring more of southern New South Wales. From charming coastal towns to wild national parks, every road from Kalaru leads to something worth discovering — and the best part is, you’ll be back in time to enjoy a barbecue dinner under the stars.

Here are a few of our favourite day trips to help you plan your next adventure.

Bermagui — Rock Pools, Markets, and Marina Views

Head north for around 45 minutes and you’ll find yourself in the coastal gem of Bermagui — a place that perfectly blends beach beauty with small-town charm.

Start your visit with a dip in the famous Blue Pool, a natural ocean rock pool carved into the cliffs, where the water glistens in every shade of blue. It’s one of the Sapphire Coast’s most photographed spots and an absolute must-see on a sunny day.

After your swim, take a stroll along the Bermagui Fishermen’s Wharf, where local eateries serve up fresh seafood straight from the boats. Enjoy lunch overlooking the marina or browse the boutique shops nearby for a keepsake to take home. If you’re visiting on a Thursday, the Bermagui Growers and Makers Market is a local favourite — filled with regional produce, handmade treats, and friendly faces.

Merimbula — Family Fun by the Water

Drive about 25 minutes south and you’ll reach Merimbula, one of the Sapphire Coast’s most loved family holiday spots.

Here you can spend the morning swimming or paddleboarding at Main Beach, where calm conditions and patrolled areas make it perfect for kids. Afterward, wander along the Merimbula Boardwalk, an easy scenic trail that hugs the edge of the lake. Keep an eye out for pelicans, fish, and crabs in the shallows as you walk.

Families will also love Magic Mountain, a small adventure park offering mini golf, water slides, and fun rides for all ages. For something slower, grab an ice cream and watch the boats drift across the bay — it’s summer perfection.

Pambula Beach — Kangaroos and Coastal Calm

Just a little further south, Pambula Beach feels like a hidden paradise. Known for its resident kangaroos, this tranquil spot offers wide stretches of sand, calm waters, and shaded picnic areas that are perfect for lazy afternoons.

Nearby Panboola Wetlands offers easy walking trails and birdwatching opportunities — an ideal stop for nature lovers. If you’re travelling with pets, parts of Pambula Beach are dog-friendly too, so your four-legged friend can enjoy the adventure right alongside you.

Eden — History and Ocean Views

If you’re up for a scenic 45-minute drive, Eden is well worth the trip. Once a whaling town, it’s now a hub of maritime history and natural beauty.

Start at the Eden Killer Whale Museum, where you’ll learn about the legendary killer whales that once helped local whalers hunt — a fascinating (and true!) chapter of coastal history. Afterward, head to Ben Boyd National Park, where dramatic cliffs and lookouts showcase some of the best ocean views in New South Wales. Keep your camera handy — between May and November, it’s one of the best spots on the coast to see migrating whales.

Before heading back to Kalaru, stop by the Seahorse Inn for a meal with a view of Twofold Bay — a perfect way to end your southern adventure.

Back at Kalaru — Your Home Base on the Sapphire Coast

After a full day of exploring, there’s nothing better than returning to Kalaru Holiday Village, where the pool sparkles in the late afternoon sun and the smell of barbecues drifts through the park.

Settle into a shady spot, share stories from your day, and listen to the sounds of the bush as the evening settles in.
